TBRHSC COVID-19 Daily Situation Report

TBRHSC COVID-19 Daily Situation Report

Friday, April 3, 2020

None of us are experts in COVID-19. No one at our Hospital, in Canada, or across the globe, have experience in this. We are learning together, moving quickly, and changing direction often. Our goal is always to protect staff, professional staff, patients and the community. We know we can’t always get it right but the biggest mistake we can make is to do nothing. A lot is being asked of you right now, so please reach out to leadership and your peers for support. Everyone has something extremely valuable to offer and by working together, we are making improvements every day. Thank you for your continued bravery and commitment.

To help keep everyone safe and prevent the spread of infection, we have issued restrictions to all patient and essential care partner movement while they are at our Hospital. Patients are not allowed to leave their unit for non-clinical purposes and smoking will not be permitted. Any patient who chooses not to comply with the restrictions should be considered for discharge. If the patient leaves and returns to the Hospital they are to be reassessed in the Emergency Department, and only admitted if medically necessary.

The health and safety of all staff and professional staff is our utmost priority. The distribution and use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) is of particular concern for everyone. Decisions have been difficult to make and are impacted by global shortages. The protection of all health care workers is dependent on availability of supplies in case of an outbreak. After careful consideration and review of evidence form Ontario Health, our Hospital is implementing a procedural mask conservation plan. More information will be provided via memo.

Ontario Health is exploring various methods of retaining, sterilizing, reprocessing and reusing PPE, including N95 masks. More information will be provided in the coming days regarding final recommendations.

Regarding yesterday’s free parking memo, thank you to those who respected the request to continue to park in designated staff lots. Your respect of patients and their essential care providers is appreciated, and supports them to avoid touching coins/parking machine buttons as they exit. To ensure patients and their essential care partners are able to find parking in the lots designated for them, Security staff will be present to remind staff to park in staff lots. Hospital staff should please continue to use assigned parking lots.

COVID-19 testing update: As of yesterday (Thursday, April 2) 347 tests have been performed at our Assessment Centre and in our Hospital.

If you are aware of any Hospital staff member who does not receive the COVID-19 Daily Situation Report via email, please refer them to helpdesk@tbh.net to be added to the all staff group email distribution list.

Please forward any questions/concerns to your supervisor.
